Abstract
A previous typological study examined the internal structure of adpositions and determined that they could be classified into three groups according to their morphological complexity. The first group corresponds to simple adpositions (in, with, of); the second group is called compound adpositions (in front of, on top of); and the last group is labeled complex adpositions (a combination of a simple adposition and a case affix). Even though this classification comprises a considerable number of languages, it is still not evident if these categories fully apply to Mexican languages. Therefore, this article aims to examine the appropriateness of this classification based on data from Mexican languages and with this information, it proposes an update to it.
