Abstract
Most of the current works about Spanish prepositions approach them only from a descriptive perspective and those that make more in-depth analyzes tend to focus only on some specific prepositions due to their high frequency and strong polysemy (like the prepositions a and de). Because of this the study of other prepositions has been generally overlooked. An example of this is the preposition con, which despite its importance as the instrumental case marker in Spanish and the fact that it’s the preposition of an important number of verbs of regime, has been scarcely studied by the syntax and semantics disciplines. That’s why this study presents one of the first attempts in trying to explain the uses of this preposition in a systematic way from the postulates of the theory of cognitive grammar, following the line of studies started by Cifuentes Honrubia, G. Soto and Cruces & Herranz.
