Abstract
The objective of this work is to explore resources of cohesion and citation that can be improved in the academic discourse of end-of-course field reports produced by second year students of a Language and Literature teaching training program in Argentina. To achieve this aim, 7 reports were collected in digital format, and manually analyzed with the assistance of an annotation tool. A coding system was designed based on the observation of the improvable aspects of cohesion and citation in the texts, and all instances were marked. The results indicate that the most frequent errors associated with cohesive relationships are those of reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction, and repetition. Moreover, the use of citations accounts for some inconsistencies between the academic genre of the texts and the use of language. The findings derived from this research can be used to improve students’ discursive practices from the development of strategies aimed at correcting the weaknesses found.
