Abstract
This article presents the importance of describing bilingualism in Interpreting Studies. First, theoretical elements are presented in order to show the relation between Bilingualism Studies and Interpreting Studies, hence the importance of describing bilingualism when carrying out research on the psycholinguistic process of the interpreter. The Language Experience and Proficiency Questionnaire (LEAP-Q) is presented as the methodology employed to describe the type of bilingualism, as well as the results of its application. Lastly, a description of the type of bilingualism in interpreting students is offered, inviting to create a contrast between results obtained from bilinguals who carry out interpreting practices with those who do not.
