Editorial Oversight
The Editorial Team reserves the right to make modifications to the text once it has been accepted; it also reserves the right to include articles for publication in the issue it deems most appropriate. The content of published articles is the responsibility of each author and does not represent the views of Semas. Revista de Lingüística Teórica y Aplicada.

Semas does not charge its authors to publish, and its contents are fully accessible and usable.

Peer Review
The Editorial Team reserves the right to directly reject works that fail to comply with the instructions set out in the Author Guidelines.

All articles considered for publication in Semas undergo a peer-review process, which means that a minimum of two specialists in the subject evaluate the works through a double-blind academic peer-review process (Evaluation Form). Following this process, one of the Editors will inform the author, by means of an evaluation report, of the acceptance (Accepted, Accepted with minor revisions, or Accepted with major revisions) or the rejection of their work, as appropriate. A maximum period of 6 months is anticipated for this process. In the event of discrepancies among the reviewers' recommendations that result in a tie, the Editorial Team will request an additional review from another specialist in order to break the tie.

Once the author receives the evaluation report with the corrections, they will have a period of 4 weeks to submit the revised article in accordance with the instructions provided. If this period is exceeded and the corrected manuscript has not been received, it will be assumed that the author has withdrawn from the editorial process. The revised version of the article submitted by the author must be accompanied by a document explicitly stating how the reviewers' comments have been addressed. This document, together with the new version of the article, will be sent again to the reviewers for evaluation, and they will indicate whether the article is ready for publication, requires further corrections, or should be rejected.

The decision to accept or reject submissions will be the responsibility of the editors-in-chief, based on and respecting the reports made by the peer reviewers, as well as the suggestions of the Editorial Board.

Reviews and interviews will be assessed by the journal's Editorial Board.

If the article or review is accepted, the author will receive a certificate of acceptance confirming the issue of the journal and the tentative date on which its publication is scheduled.

Open Access Policy
Semas provides immediate, free, open access to all of its content, in accordance with the principles of Open Access and Open Science, as part of its commitment to the democratization of knowledge and the dissemination of research funded with public resources. No registration or payment is required to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles.

The published material may be used to create new works, provided that the original author and the journal are properly acknowledged, in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), which can be consulted at: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/.

Semas adheres to the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).

Ethics and Good Practice Guidelines
Semas uses software to detect plagiarism in the contributions it receives. All texts received must be unpublished and must not be submitted simultaneously to another peer-review or publication process; they will be processed through the Turnitin anti-plagiarism software. If the analysis returns more than 20% matching content (not counting verbatim quotations), the text will undergo internal review. After this, the articles and essays will be sent out for review.

Ethics of Editors
Editors are responsible for coordinating the editorial process. They handle the receipt of texts, their review, copyediting, layout, editing, publication, and dissemination, ensuring at all times compliance with the Submission Guidelines, the editorial policies, and the publication dates. In addition, they must confirm that publishable texts are relevant, of high quality, and pertinent to the journal's field of study.

Semas reaffirms its commitment to transparency at every stage of the editorial process. At Semas, the evaluation of manuscripts is carried out objectively, without distinction as to ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, institutional affiliation, nationality, or any other personal characteristic of the person submitting a text.

Ethics of Authors
Articles submitted for evaluation must be original and unpublished and must not be submitted simultaneously to another peer-review or publication process. A manuscript will be considered not original if it exceeds 20% similarity with another published work.

Likewise, authors are solely responsible for what is expressed in their writings and guarantee that they contain no illegal material. They also undertake to ensure that any material drawn from other scientific research (their own or others') is properly cited.

Ethics of Reviewers
By accepting the invitation to evaluate a manuscript, reviewers assume the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of the content of the assigned work. Manuscripts submitted for review are confidential documents and must not be shown or discussed with other experts without the authorization of Semas.

Reviewers must notify the journal, as soon as possible, whether they will evaluate the manuscript. If they are unable to carry out the review, they must delete every physical or digital copy of the file sent to them.

They must report any unethical conduct or anomaly detected during their review and support any decision to reject objectively, avoiding personal criticism. It is crucial that they express their opinions clearly and with valid arguments. The decision must be accompanied by the manuscript evaluation form automatically provided by Semas.

The privileged information obtained through the peer-review process must remain confidential and must not be used for personal purposes. Reviewers must refrain from evaluating manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.

Ethics of Readers
Readers and users have free, open access to the content published in Semas. Citing, sharing, printing, and distributing the material is permitted, provided that it is clearly acknowledged that the work was originally published in the journal Semas. The material must not be used for commercial purposes.

Conflicts of Interest
All parties in the editorial process —authors, editors, reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board— must declare any conflict of interest (financial, professional, institutional, or personal) that could affect the objectivity of the process. Authors will declare the sources of funding for their research and any relationship that could be perceived as a conflict. Editors or reviewers who identify a conflict regarding a manuscript will refrain from intervening and will notify the Editorial Team, which will reassign the task. The existence of a conflict is not grounds for rejection, but its deliberate omission constitutes a breach of publication ethics.

Research Misconduct
Semas will address any allegation of misconduct —plagiarism, manipulation of data or citations, improper authorship, duplicate or redundant publication, among others— in accordance with COPE's flowcharts and recommendations. The Editorial Team will investigate the case, give the author the opportunity to respond and, depending on the severity, may reject the manuscript, retract the article, notify the author's institution, and restrict future submissions.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Semas recognizes the growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools and establishes the following conditions for their responsible and transparent use in the editorial process.

No generative language model (such as ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) may be listed as an author. If the research team used AI tools to assist with copyediting, translation, or data processing, this must be explicitly declared at the end of the manuscript. Authors assume full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and ethics of the final content.

Reviewers and editors must not enter manuscripts —or any part of them— into generative AI tools, for reasons of confidentiality, nor delegate to them the preparation of reviews or editorial decisions; any use of AI in the review process must be declared.

Corrections and Retractions Policy
Semas preserves the integrity of the scholarly record in accordance with COPE guidelines:

• Correction (erratum): for minor errors that do not affect results or conclusions; a note linked to the original article is published.
• Major correction: for errors that affect substantial parts without invalidating the work.
• Retraction: for proven misconduct (plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, duplicate publication) or errors that invalidate the results; a retraction note linked to the article is published, and the article remains accessible and clearly marked as retracted.

Requests for correction or retraction may be submitted by authors or third parties and will be assessed by the Editorial Team.

Complaints and Appeals Policy
Authors who disagree with an editorial decision may appeal in writing to the email semas@uaq.mx, setting out their reasons in a reasoned manner. The appeal will be reviewed by the editors-in-chief, who may request a new review; their decision will be final. Any complaint about published content, the editorial process, or the conduct of the journal's staff may be addressed to the same email and will be handled promptly and confidentially, in accordance with COPE guidelines.

Data Sharing and Reproducibility Policy
Semas promotes transparency and reproducibility in research. Authors are encouraged to make available —in public repositories or as supplementary material— the data, corpora, and materials supporting their results, except where ethical or legal restrictions apply (for example, personal data or the confidentiality of participants). Where applicable, authors will be invited to include a data availability statement.

Funding
Semas is edited and funded entirely by the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, through the Facultad de Lenguas y Letras. It receives no commercial funding and, in accordance with its non-commercial open access model, applies no article processing charges (APCs) or fees to authors or readers.

Self-Archiving Policy
Semas permits and encourages self-archiving. Authors may deposit the published version of their work in open-access institutional or thematic repositories, provided that their original publication in the journal is acknowledged and a link to the article is included. This practice promotes broad dissemination and the preservation of knowledge.

Metadata Policy
Semas generates and manages standardized descriptive metadata for each article, in order to ensure its proper identification, retrieval, and interoperability. The metadata include, at least: authorship (with ORCID identifier when available), title, abstract, keywords, publication data (journal, volume, issue, dates, and pagination), persistent identifier (DOI), and ISSN. The journal, managed in Open Journal Systems, exposes its metadata through the OAI-PMH protocol and uses standard schemas (Dublin Core) to facilitate harvesting by indexes, databases, and aggregators.

Copyright Notice
Authors who publish in Semas agree to the following terms:

• As the copyright owner, the author assigns the economic rights, for an unlimited term, to Semas. Revista de Lingüística Teórica y Aplicada —published by the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro— so that it may reproduce, edit, distribute, display, and communicate the manuscript through print and electronic media, databases, pre- and post-publication repositories, the internet, or any other medium now known or hereafter devised.
• The author certifies that they hold the moral rights to the work and assumes responsibility for any claim related to intellectual property rights, releasing the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro from all liability.
• The author acknowledges and accepts Semas's Open Access Policy and therefore authorizes the dissemination of their work under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), which allows third parties to share and adapt the content in any format, provided that authorship and first publication in this journal are acknowledged, the work is not used for commercial purposes, and derivative works are distributed under the same license.
