Semas (ISSN: 2683-3301) is a semiannual, digital, open-access publication issued by the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro through the Facultad de Lenguas y Letras. Its issues are published in January and July of each year and comprise original research articles, critical literature reviews, book reviews, and interviews, in Spanish and English, of significance in the field of theoretical and applied linguistics. Each article undergoes evaluation by academic peer reviewers specializing in the field, who issue a report through a double-blind process.

Focus and Scope
The primary objective of Semas is to facilitate and foster scholarly exchange in the field of theoretical and applied linguistics. It seeks to publish original research articles, in Spanish and English, from the national and international scholarly community, with the aim of promoting dialogue and the dissemination of knowledge in the field. Since its inception in 2020, the journal's focus has centered on the field of linguistics, as well as on its interdisciplinary connections with other areas of scientific research. This publication is aimed at the international academic community (researchers, professors, and students) specializing in linguistics.

Social Relevance and Thematic Dossiers
Semas publishes research that links the study of language with priority social issues and with the linguistic diversity of Mexico and Latin America. Its contents notably include thematic dossiers, as well as research on the Indigenous languages of Mexico (Maya, Nahuatl, Tseltal), migration and language contact, accessibility and the Deaf community, and language and gender. The journal publishes works by a diverse range of national and international authors and promotes the connection between linguistic research and its social relevance.

Semas offers its contents free of charge, with no restrictions on reading, downloading, or printing the full text. The journal charges neither submission fees nor article publication fees.

Journal Organization
Semas has an Editorial Board composed of researchers from the Facultad de Lenguas y Letras of the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, and an external Advisory Board that serves as a consultant to the journal. The latter is made up of distinguished international researchers.

The main functions of the Editorial Board include:

• Periodically reviewing and defining the editorial criteria.
• Contributing to the planning of each issue of the journal.
• Inviting recognized members of the national and international academic community to publish their work.
• Conducting a first reading of the manuscripts received, assessing their suitability for the journal and, where appropriate, suggesting reviewers according to the subject matter of the text.
• Inviting Mexican and foreign researchers to serve as reviewers in order to ensure the quality of the evaluation of the works submitted for publication.
• Promoting the dissemination of the journal.

The main functions of the Advisory Board include:

• Making recommendations on editorial policy: advising the Editorial Board on the definition, discussion, and proposal of the journal's scientific quality standards.
• Acting as a liaison between the journal and the various research groups.
• Promoting the dissemination of the journal in national and international academic circles.
• Collaborating in review tasks and/or volunteering as peer reviewers for articles specific to their area of work (by subject).
• Suggesting other experts as peer reviewers and supporting/advising the Editorial Board in the selection of reviewers for the evaluation of articles.

Digital Preservation Policy
The Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro is committed to ensuring long-term access to and preservation of the digital objects hosted on its servers. To ensure the continued availability of these resources, the Coordinación de Publicaciones Periódicas (Periodicals Office), responsible for the UAQ Journals Portal, works with the Dirección de Información, Tecnología e Innovación (Information, Technology, and Innovation Office) to implement the following measures:

• Performing periodic backups.
• Constant monitoring of the technological environment to anticipate possible format migrations or updates to obsolete software.
• Use of DOI (Digital Object Identifier) identifiers to ensure the traceability of documents.

In addition to the above, Semas, hosted on the UAQ Journals Portal, has the PKP PN module, which incorporates the LOCKSS program, providing decentralized and distributed preservation, uninterrupted perpetual access, and the conservation of the authentic original version of the content. Likewise, and contributing to digital preservation, Semas stores information in the cloud storage of the journal's institutional email accounts and publishes its contents in XML-JATS and PDF formats.

Use of Interoperability Protocols
This journal carries out its editorial management through Open Journal Systems and provides an OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) interface that allows other portals and information services to access the metadata of the published content.
